The medal, depicting the Virgin Mary, reminds us of Mary's protection. In the second apparition to St. Catherine Laboure on November 27th, 1830, Mary promised, "All those who will carry this will receive many graces, especially if they will wear the medal around their neck and say my prayer confidently; they will receive special protection from the Mother of God and many graces".
